Image Converter
Free to use. Runs in your browser: your files and text are not uploaded.
Change a picture from one file type to another. The tool reads any image your browser can open, including JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG, and saves it as JPG, PNG or WebP.
How to use it
- Choose one or more images.
- Pick the type to convert to.
- For JPG and WebP, set the quality. Higher quality means a larger file.
- Press Convert and use the download links.
The three formats
| Format | Good for | Transparency | Compression |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos | No | Loses some detail |
| PNG | Logos, screenshots, drawings | Yes | Loses nothing |
| WebP | Web pages | Yes | Loses some detail at quality below 100 |
A screenshot saved as PNG is usually sharper than the same screenshot as JPG, because JPG blurs hard edges such as text. A photo saved as PNG is often several times larger than as JPG with no visible gain.
Limits
- Converting a JPG to PNG does not bring back detail the JPG already lost.
- Animated GIF and animated WebP files are converted as one still frame.
- HEIC photos from iPhones open only in browsers that support HEIC, which at present means Safari.
- The picture’s size in pixels is not changed. Use the Image Resizer for that.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert WebP to PNG or JPG?
Choose the WebP file, set Convert to PNG or JPG, press Convert and download the new file.
What happens to transparent areas when I convert to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. PNG and WebP keep them.
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. Select several files in the file window. Each one gets its own download link.
