Image Compressor
Free to use. Runs in your browser: your files and text are not uploaded.
Make a picture file smaller so it fits an upload limit. Pick a target such as 50 KB or 100 KB, and the tool finds the best quality that fits under it.
How to use it
- Choose an image.
- Pick the size it must be smaller than, or choose “Another size” and type a number in kilobytes.
- Press Compress, check the sizes shown, and download the file.
How it works
The picture is saved again as a JPG. JPG has a quality setting from low to high: lower quality throws away fine detail and gives a smaller file. The tool tries several quality levels and keeps the highest one that fits your limit.
If the file is still too large at the lowest acceptable quality, the tool makes the picture smaller in pixels and tries again. The message under the buttons shows the old size, the new size and the final width and height.
“Best balance” uses a fixed quality of 75%, which usually cuts a phone photo to a fraction of its size with little visible change.
Limits
- JPG compression loses detail, and the loss cannot be undone. Keep your original file.
- Very small targets, such as 20 KB for a large photo, force a small pixel size. Text in the picture may become hard to read.
- Pictures that are already heavily compressed may not get much smaller.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to under 100 KB?
Choose the image, leave the size on 100 KB and press Compress. The tool lowers the JPG quality step by step until the file fits, and reduces the pixel size only if it has to.
Why is the result always a JPG?
JPG gives the smallest files for photos and is accepted by almost every website and form. Transparent areas become white.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The compression is done by your browser on your own device.
