Username Generator
Free to use. Runs in your browser: your files and text are not uploaded.
Get a list of username ideas. Leave the box empty for random names, or type a word, such as your first name or a hobby, to build the names around it.
How to use it
- Optionally, type a word to include.
- Type how many ideas you want, from 1 to 100.
- Press Generate. Press it again until one stands out, then Copy.
How it works
Each username joins words from built-in lists in one of four patterns:
| Pattern | Example |
|---|---|
| Adjective + word | SwiftFalcon |
| Word + noun | FalconHarbor |
| adjective_word (small letters) | swift_falcon |
| The + adjective + word | TheSwiftFalcon |
About one name in four gets a number added to the end, which helps when the plain version is already taken. If you supply a word, it takes the place of the main word.
Choosing well
- Check the rules. Instagram allows letters, numbers, full stops and underscores, up to 30 characters. X allows letters, numbers and underscores, up to 15.
- Use the same name everywhere if you are building a channel or brand, so people can find you.
- Protect your privacy. A username is public. Leave out your surname, year of birth and location unless you mean to share them.
- Say it aloud. If you have to spell it out, it is too complicated.
Limits
- The tool does not know which names are taken on any site.
- Spaces and symbols in the word you type are removed, because most sites do not allow them.
- Names are built from English words.
Frequently asked questions
Does this check whether a username is available?
No. Availability is known only to each site. Copy a name you like and try it in that site's sign-up or settings page.
How do I include my own name in the username?
Type it in the box marked Word to include. Every suggestion will then be built around that word.
What makes a good username?
Short, easy to say and easy to spell. Avoid long runs of numbers and anything that gives away your birth year, address or full name.
