QR Code Generator

Create a QR code for a link or text and download it as a PNG. Free, no sign-up, and the code never expires.

Free to use. Runs in your browser: your files and text are not uploaded.

Turn a website link or any short text into a QR code. Download it as a PNG picture and use it in print or on screen.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste a link or text. Press Create QR code. After that, the code follows what you type.
  2. Choose the picture size. Use 1024 or 2048 pixels for print.
  3. Change the colours if you wish, then press the download button.

How a QR code works

A QR code is a grid of dark and light squares that stores text. A phone camera reads the pattern and turns it back into the text. When the text is a web address, the phone offers to open it.

The three large squares in the corners tell the scanner where the code is and which way up it is.

Error correction

A QR code repeats some of its data so it can still be read when part of it is dirty, torn or covered. The four levels can recover about 7%, 15%, 25% or 30% of the code. A higher level makes a denser pattern with smaller squares. Medium suits most uses. Choose High or Highest for codes that will be printed small or handled a lot.

Limits

  • Keep the dark colour much darker than the background. Light-on-dark and low-contrast codes fail on many scanners.
  • More text means smaller squares. A QR code can hold up to 2,953 bytes at the lowest error correction, but short links scan fastest.
  • This makes static codes: the content cannot be changed after printing, and scans are not counted.
  • Test every code with a phone before printing.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The link or text is stored inside the pattern itself, so the code works for as long as the link does. Nothing passes through our site when it is scanned.

Is the QR code free for business use?

Yes. You can print it on packaging, menus, posters and business cards at no cost.

What size should I print a QR code?

A common rule is that the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance. A code scanned from 20 cm away should be about 2 cm wide or more.
