Random Pickers

Spin the Wheel

Free spin the wheel name picker. Type your names or choices, spin, and get a random winner. For classrooms, giveaways and decisions.

Free to use. Runs in your browser: your files and text are not uploaded.

Type a list of names or choices, press Spin, and the wheel picks one at random.

How to use it

  1. Type your entries in the box, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Press Spin.
  3. The winner appears under the button when the wheel stops.

Tick Remove the winner after each spin to draw several different winners one after another.

How it works

Each entry gets an equal slice of the wheel. When you press Spin, the tool picks the winning entry with a random number, then turns the wheel five full times and slows it to stop with that slice under the pointer. The spin is for show: the outcome is decided by the random number, so the wheel’s starting position has no effect.

With n entries, each has a 1 in n chance. With 6 entries that is 16.7% each.

Ideas for using it

  • Classroom: choose who answers next, or assign presentation order with “remove the winner” ticked.
  • Giveaways: paste the list of entrants and spin on camera.
  • Decisions: where to eat, which film to watch, who does the washing-up.
  • Games: forfeits, challenges and truth-or-dare prompts.
  • Team stand-ups: pick who speaks first.

Tips

  • Paste a column straight from a spreadsheet. Each row becomes an entry.
  • Long names are shortened on the wheel but shown in full as the winner.
  • Blank lines are ignored.

Limits

  • The wheel needs at least two entries. With more than about 50, the names on the slices become too small to read, though the draw still works.
  • Your list is not saved. Reloading the page restores the example names.
  • For a prize draw with legal rules, check whether a witnessed or audited draw is required. A spin on your own screen cannot be verified by anyone else afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wheel fair?

Yes. Every entry gets a slice of the same size and an equal chance. The winner is picked by your browser's random number generator before the wheel starts turning, and the spin then lands on it.

How do I give one entry a better chance?

Type it on more than one line. An entry that appears twice has twice the chance of one that appears once.

How do I pick several winners without repeats?

Tick the box to remove the winner after each spin, then spin again for each winner you need.
