Random Number Generator
Free to use. Runs in your browser: your files and text are not uploaded.
Pick random whole numbers from a range you choose. Get a single number, or a list with or without repeats.
How to use it
- Type the smallest and largest numbers allowed. Both are included.
- Type how many numbers you want, up to 1,000.
- Tick No repeats if each number may appear only once.
- Press Generate.
How it works
The tool asks your browser’s cryptographic generator for random bits and turns them into a number in your range. It discards values that would make some numbers slightly more likely than others, a method called rejection sampling. The result is that every number in the range is equally likely.
With and without repeats
- With repeats is like rolling a die: each pick is independent, so the same number can come up again.
- Without repeats is like drawing tickets from a hat: once a number is drawn, it is out.
For “no repeats”, the range must contain at least as many numbers as you ask for. You cannot draw 10 different numbers from 1 to 5.
Common uses
| Task | Settings |
|---|---|
| Roll a six-sided die | 1 to 6, one number |
| Pick 3 raffle winners from 250 tickets | 1 to 250, three numbers, no repeats |
| Lottery-style pick of 6 from 49 | 1 to 49, six numbers, no repeats |
| Random sample of 20 rows from 500 | 1 to 500, twenty numbers, no repeats |
| Put 10 people in a random order | 1 to 10, ten numbers, no repeats |
Limits
- Whole numbers only. Decimals are not generated.
- Negative numbers work: a range of −10 to 10 is fine.
- The range can span at most about 4.29 billion numbers.
- Results are not saved or signed. For a prize draw with legal rules, check whether an independently witnessed or audited draw is required.
- Choosing lottery numbers at random does not change the odds of winning. Every combination is equally likely.
Frequently asked questions
How do I pick a random number between 1 and 100?
Leave From at 1 and To at 100, and press Generate. Both ends are included, so 1 and 100 can come up.
How do I draw raffle winners without picking the same ticket twice?
Set the range to your ticket numbers, type how many winners you need, tick No repeats, and press Generate.
Are the numbers truly random?
They come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, which is seeded from unpredictable events in your device. Every whole number in the range has an equal chance.
