Type a pay amount for any period to see the matching amount for every other period: hour, day, week, two weeks, month and year.
How to use it
- Type the pay amount and choose the period it is for.
- Set the hours and days you work in a week, and the weeks you are paid for in a year.
- Read the results.
How it works
Everything is converted to a yearly amount first, then divided back down:
- Yearly = hourly × hours a week × weeks a year
- Monthly = yearly ÷ 12
- Every two weeks = yearly ÷ (weeks a year ÷ 2)
- Weekly = yearly ÷ weeks a year
- Daily = yearly ÷ (days a week × weeks a year)
Worked example
25 an hour, 40 hours and 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year:
| Period | Pay |
|---|---|
| Hour | 25.00 |
| Day | 200.00 |
| Week | 1,000.00 |
| Two weeks | 2,000.00 |
| Month | 4,333.33 |
| Year | 52,000.00 |
Two things that trip people up
A month is not four weeks. A year has 52 weeks and 12 months, so a month averages 4.33 weeks. Monthly pay is weekly pay × 52 ÷ 12, not weekly pay × 4.
Unpaid time off changes the hourly figure. If you are not paid for holidays, lower the weeks a year. Someone paid for 48 weeks at 25 an hour earns 48,000, not 52,000.
Comparing a salaried job with hourly work
To compare fairly, use the hours you really work. A 52,000 salary at 40 hours a week is 25 an hour. At 50 hours a week it is 20 an hour.
Limits
- Figures are gross pay, before income tax, social security or pension contributions.
- Overtime rates, bonuses and benefits such as health insurance or paid leave are not included.
- The two-week figure assumes 26 pay periods in a 52-week year. Being paid twice a month gives 24 pay periods and a slightly larger payment each time.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours worked a week and by the weeks worked a year. 25 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = 52,000 a year.
How do I convert a yearly salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the salary by the hours worked in a year. For a 40-hour week, that is 2,080 hours: 52,000 ÷ 2,080 = 25 an hour.
Does this show take-home pay?
No. All figures are before tax and other deductions. Tax rules differ by country and change every year, so this tool does not estimate them.
